Meet the Guides Behind
SMC Williams Guide Service
A Lifelong Friendship Built Around Hunting
SMC Williams Guide Service was built from something that started long before the business itself: a lifelong friendship, a shared passion for hunting, and a family tradition that has been passed down through generations.
Owners and guides Sam McGuire and Colby Williams have spent decades hunting, guiding, scouting, and learning the landscapes and wildlife of California. Although SMC Williams Guide Service LLC officially came together in 2025, the relationship between Sam and Colby—and their shared history in the hunting community—goes back much further.
Both grew up around hunting and the outdoors, learning early that successful hunts aren't simply about pulling the trigger. They are about preparation, understanding wildlife, reading the terrain, adapting to changing conditions, and respecting the land, the animals, and the people who make these opportunities possible.
Today, that shared experience forms the foundation of SMC Williams Guide Service.

Sam McGuire
Guide • Marksman • Outdoorsman
Sam McGuire grew up in a hunting family and was introduced to the outdoors at an early age. His grandfather was a forest ranger in the Sierra Nevada, and those early experiences helped establish the foundation for Sam's lifelong connection to hunting, the backcountry, and the outdoors.
Sam began guiding hunts while still in high school. What started as an early passion developed into a career spanning California and Wyoming, where he has guided hunters across a wide variety of terrain and pursued numerous species of big game.
His experience extends well beyond guiding. Sam has developed extensive knowledge of marksmanship, hunting equipment, backcountry navigation, and the technical aspects of hunting. He is also the founder of McGuire Ballistics, where his focus on advanced lead-free hunting projectiles reflects the same attention to performance and responsible hunting that he brings into the field.
For Sam, guiding is about more than getting a hunter within range. It's about preparing clients for the hunt, making sound decisions in the field, and adapting to the conditions in front of you.
Colby Williams
Guide • Hunter • California Outdoorsman
For Colby Williams, hunting and guiding are part of a family legacy.
Colby was raised in the hunting community as the son of one of California's first licensed hunting guides. He grew up around the outdoors and began guiding hunts at just 10 years old, gaining a level of hands-on experience at an age when most people were only beginning to discover their passion for hunting.
Over the years, Colby's experience has developed into an extensive understanding of California's wildlife, terrain, and hunting opportunities. His particular expertise in wild pig hunting comes from years spent pursuing pigs across California's diverse landscapes and learning how weather, food, water, terrain, and animal behavior influence the hunt.
That experience has shaped Colby's approach to guiding: pay attention to the conditions, trust what the animals are telling you, and don't force a strategy that isn't working.

More Than Experience—It's How We Guide
Experience only matters if you know how to use it.
At SMC Williams Guide Service, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to hunting. Every ranch is different. Every season is different. Weather changes, wildlife behavior changes, and every hunter brings different experience levels and expectations into the field.
Our job is to put all of those variables together and develop the best plan possible for the conditions we have that day.
That may mean spending hours behind glass looking for pigs around food and water sources, carefully working through California's oak-covered hills in search of a mature blacktail buck, pursuing a turkey through the spring woods, or covering rugged country in pursuit of a Tule elk.
The methods may change, but our priorities don't: safety, ethical hunting, preparation, professionalism, and providing our clients with the best opportunity possible.
We measure a successful hunt by more than the animal harvested. It's also about the knowledge gained, the memories created, and the experience shared in the field.
Our California Hunting Experience
SMC Williams Guide Service provides fully guided hunting experiences throughout California's Central Coast and Central Valley, with opportunities for wild pig, blacktail deer, Tule elk, and wild turkey.
Our hunting areas include private ranches and properties throughout Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Madera, Merced, and Tulare Counties, with specific locations and opportunities varying by species and season.
We take pride in building relationships with landowners and carefully selecting the properties and hunting methods we use based on habitat, wildlife behavior, seasonal conditions, and the goals of each hunt.
Whether you're an experienced hunter pursuing a specific trophy or a first-time hunter looking to experience California's outdoors, our goal is to provide the knowledge, preparation, and personal attention necessary to make your hunt memorable.

Hunting Is About More Than the Harvest
One of the things that keeps us passionate about guiding is what happens beyond the harvest.
Hunting has a way of bringing people together. It creates opportunities to spend time outdoors, share stories, teach younger generations, build friendships, and step away from the distractions of everyday life.
That belief is part of why SMC Williams Guide Service is proud to support opportunities that connect people with the outdoors beyond traditional guided hunts. Our partnership with Brave Souls United, including a California wild pig hunt for veterans, is one example of how we hope to use our time in the field to give something back to the hunting and outdoor community.
For us, hunting has always been about more than the animal. It's about tradition, conservation, friendship, family, and the experiences that stay with you long after the hunt is over.

Come Hunt With Us
Whether you're looking for a guided California wild pig hunt, pursuing a blacktail deer, chasing a Tule elk, or hoping to experience a California turkey hunt, we'd be honored to have you join us in the field.
We're proud of where we come from, the people who taught us, and the experiences that shaped us as hunters and guides. Most importantly, we're excited to share those traditions with the next generation of hunters and with everyone who chooses to spend time in the field with SMC Williams Guide Service.
The best memories are made one hunt at a time.
